Pioneer made only two parametric equalizers during the late 1970s: the SG-9500 and the SG-9800. Like Pioneers's other components from this period, they were handsome and built to last the ages. Because they were so well made, many examples still exist today. They make a great addition to your Silver Pioneer collection. SG-9500
The SG-9500 Equalizer was introduced by Pioneer in 1976 and remained in production through 1979. Each channel had ten bands of equalization with a boost/cut range of 10 dB. THD was only .05% at maximum output, and featured an impressive 90 dB signal-to-noise ratio. The unit measured 16.5 w x 13.5 dp x 6.0 h and weighed just over 15 pounds. It sold for $300 until 1979 when price was increased to $345.
The
SG-9800 was introduced in 1979 and was manufactured through 1980. It
featured twelve bands of equalization for each channel with a boost/cut range of
10 dB. It featured a negligible .02 THD at maximum output. The
signal-to-noise ratio of 92 dB was even more impressive than the SG-9500.
It measured 16.5 w, x 14.0 dp x 6.0 h and weighed 15.5 pounds. It sold for
$395.
