Pioneer became known as an electronic component manufacturer of some of the finest reel-to-reel and cassette decks you could buy during the 1970s and 1980s.  The reel to reel decks in particular are highly prized today.  And many of the CT-series cassette decks are still in use today.  Both types of tape decks are sought by collectors and Pioneer enthusiasts.  Pioneer stopped making reel to reel decks around the mid-1980s as cassette decks basically took over the market and CDs started to catch on with the buying public.
